Main differences

The main difference between the two services is of course the desire to renew its catalog of current generations. Microsoft was firm in its decision a few years ago: all games from its in-house studios will debut on day one on Xbox Game Pass. Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Gears 5 and Microsoft Flight Simulator have been among the biggest in recent years, while names like Starfield, Fable and the next Forza Motorsport.

PlayStation, on the other hand, follow another strategy of “level of investment” that their studies must achieve “the virtuous circle” in which their studies find themselves. They will not include their productions as launches, but rather they will rely on a digital library that “will be renewed periodically” between proprietary and third-party titles. In June, subscribers to Extra and Premium modes will be able to access Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Returnal and Mortal Kombat 11, among others.

return

The position of the two in the streaming market in the cloud is also different. Microsoft in recent months has diversified its offering into more platforms compared to Sony. Xbox Cloud Gaming is available across the Xbox ecosystem, including Xbox One, web browser on PC, iOS and Android mobile devices, and tablets. PlayStation, on the other hand, will continue to offer the same platforms as PS Now so far: PS5, PS4 and PC.

Additionally, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate integrates the benefits of other subscriptions around its ecosystem. And we’re not just talking about Xbox Live Gold, but about EA Game. In the case of Electronic Arts, you can expect exclusive discounts on their games, 10-hour trials on their latest releases, and the introduction of their productions after a few months on the market.

When will the new PS Plus arrive and what will happen to current subscriptions?

We remind you again that the new PS Plus will arrive next june. Once done, the current subscriptions on PlayStation will disappear, giving its members one mode or another depending on what they have at the time of the change.

Users of the current PS Plus, for example, will be part of PS Plus Essential, the basic mode. This first lens offers the same advantages as the version known to all in recent years. Instead, if you have PS Plus and PS Now, you’ll receive the higher, PS Plus Premium; those who only have PS Now will also join the higher value mode. The exchange of subscriptions will be extended until the renewal term of your current subscription. PS Now as we know it today is going away.
